Honoring Those Who Gave All

Memorial Day is a time to pause as a nation and honor the memory of Americans who left their hometowns and laid down their lives in service to our country.

Their sacrifice is a debt we can never fully repay and a solemn reminder of the cost of our freedoms.

Throughout this Memorial Day Weekend may we remember, reflect, and honor them with a renewed commitment to the values they fought to protect.

100th Anniversary Celebration

I was honored to be invited to Ford Cliff Volunteer Fire Company’s 100th Anniversary Celebration. This remarkable milestone is a testament to a century of dedication, courage, and selfless service to the community.

Thank you to the incredible volunteers and the supportive community whose commitment has made this legacy possible. It was great to spend time with some old friends and see some new faces!

Boy Scout Troop 245 – Eagle Scout Awards

Senator Pittman with a group of eagle scouts

I was very pleased to attend the Eagle Scout Court of Honor for three members of Boy Scout Troop 245 in Punxsutawney! Rep. Brian Smith and I presented Jordan Barenchik, Zackary States and Alexandrew Elbel with Citations in recognition of their achievements.

  • Jordan Barenchik – For his Eagle Scout Project Jordan raised funds and built a gaga ball pit at the Punxsutawney Alliance Church (CMA). This Eagle Scout project has made a tremendous improvement for the many guests attending the activities held at the CMA church.
  • Zackary States – For his Eagle Scout Project Zachary raised funds and built new dugouts at the Walston ballfield. This Eagle Scout project has made a tremendous improvement to the Walston ballfield.
  • Alexandrew Elbel – For his Eagle Scout Project Alexandrew raised funds, built a community library box, and placed it at the entrance of John W. Jenks-Hobah Masonic Lodge located at 225 West Mahoning Street in Punxsutawney. This Eagle Scout project has made it more accessible to get books in that section of Punxsutawney.

Congratulations to these young leaders on earning their Eagle Scout Awards and best wishes in all your future endeavors!

High School Student Job Shadow

Senator Pittman with a student

Sydney Adamsky, a student from Indiana Area School District, spent the day job shadowing me to learn more about state government, constituent services, and the legislative process. Her enthusiasm and curiosity were refreshing, and it was a pleasure having her with our team at the Indiana Office.

Thank you to Sydney for spending the day with us to get a closer look at how public service operates behind the scenes!

Future Farmers of America Banquet

It was a pleasure to attend the Penns Manor Area School District FFA Annual Banquet. I enjoyed meeting some of the students and advisors as they received recognition for their hard work & dedication throughout the school year.

These young leaders are engaged in a wide range of agricultural activities and help advocate for the agriculture industry within their communities and statewide. It is wonderful to see such passionate involvement for the future of our top industry in Pennsylvania!

Senate Acts to Tighten Safety Standards for Operating Big Rigs

The Senate approved two bills to tighten commercial driver’s license (CDL) safety standards and close dangerous loopholes in Pennsylvania’s licensing and training systems.

Senate Bill 1294 improves the training curriculum and strengthens penalties to shut down unqualified “CDL Mills.” Senate Bill 1295 requires English proficiency in all testing applications to operate an 80,000-pound commercial vehicle on public highways.

The legislation was developed after a Senate hearing exposed alarming gaps in current laws, including instances where individuals without proper training or English proficiency have operated heavy commercial vehicles on U.S. highways. The bills were sent to the House of Representatives for consideration. Read more about these CDL improvement bills here

  • Never boat under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
  • Have a float plan to let someone know when and where you will be boating.
  • Check the weather forecast for storms and high-water conditions.
  • Take a Boating Safety Education Course.

For more information on safe boating, to take a Boating Safety Education Course and to purchase launch permits, boat registration renewals and fishing licenses, visit the commission’s boating webpage.
