PA Voters Return Senate Republican Majority

Thank you. I am humbled and honored to be re-elected to continue to serve the 41st Senatorial District as your state Senator.

This is an historic and exciting time for Pennsylvania and our entire nation. Voters have spoken loudly and clearly to send a strong team of Republicans to the State Senate. Across the Commonwealth we are witnessing a renewed embrace of policies and principles to strengthen families and forge a promising and prosperous future. For the first time in over two decades, we will welcome a new senator to our Caucus from Philadelphia, which serves as a significant means to further close the rural, urban, and suburban divide. Our Senate Republican Caucus will continue to be steadfast in our work to empower Pennsylvanians by standing against executive and judicial overreach, rejecting Democrats’ massive tax increases, and ensuring the fundamental rights of our Commonwealth’s citizens remain safely guarded.

Pennsylvania voters returned a Republican majority to the state Senate in Tuesday’s General Election, re-electing all Republican incumbents and sending new Republican senators to Harrisburg. Senate Republicans will hold a 28-22 majority in the 2025-26 legislative session. Newly and re-elected senators will be sworn into office to begin their four-year terms on Jan. 7, 2025.

EITC Scholarship Presentation

I was delighted to attend the EITC scholarship presentation by the Bridge Educational Foundation, with the support of RBC Capital Markets and Waste Management, at Punxsutawney Christian School in Jefferson County. The organization is donating $43,000 for EITC scholarships for students in Indiana and Jefferson Counties.

Scholarship funds are made possible through Pennsylvania’s Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) Program. It was great to join with Rep. Jim Struzzi and Rep. Brian Smith for this special event. My thanks to everyone who attended and all who continue to support the EITC scholarship program – a true win-win!

New Kensington Fire Department Annual Banquet

I was honored to recently attend New Kensington Fire Department – Company #1, 2, & 3 74th annual banquet. It was pleasure to present Senate citations to the following members for their dedicated service:
🚒 David Blair, Engine Co. No. 2 – 50 years of Service
🚒 Thomas Hydock, Engine Co. No. 2 – 50 years of Service
🚒 Steve Freiberg, Engine Co. No. 5 – 25 years of service
🚒 Bryan Musolino, Engine Co. No. 2 – 25 years of service
🚒 John Shirey, Engine Co. No. 1 – 25 years of service
Volunteer firefighters deserve our gratitude and recognition every day for the time and effort they put forth to keep our local communities safe and protected. Quite often VFD members give up much of their personal time while on emergency calls and also to continue training and fundraise for their department. My thanks to Fire Chief, Ed Saliba for inviting me.

Over $20 Million Awarded for Local Projects

Great News! 10 Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP) grants have been awarded for projects in Armstrong, Indiana, Jefferson and Westmoreland Counties.

Investing in these projects is about helping our communities have the resources they need to thrive. I’m pleased to have worked together to advocate for this substantial support. The approved funding will open new opportunities and expand upon previous initiatives throughout our region to increase economic and community development, as well as provide greater access to medical care.

You can find out more details about these exciting projects here:

New Law Makes Workers’ Comp More Efficient

The Pennsylvania Workers’ Compensation system will be more efficient because of legislation unanimously passed by Senate Republicans that is now law.

Act 126 of 2024 moves more benefit payments from paper checks to direct deposit. Individuals entitled to compensation may request funds be deposited into an account of their choosing. The law also allows insurers to no longer have to offer paper checks as a payment as long as the individual has a bank account that accepts direct deposit.

The reforms, which are also more cost-effective, were unanimously recommended by the Workers’ Compensation Advisory Council.

Shooting Ranges Open to the Public

Whether you’re a hunter preparing for rifle season or would simply like to maintain your shooting skills for self-defense, you can take aim at a public shooting range.

The Pennsylvania Game Commission offers recreation opportunities at public rifle, pistol, archery and shotgun ranges on 40 state game lands throughout the state. It constructed or renovated more than a dozen public shooting ranges this year alone, with plans to upgrade more.

You must possess an annual shooting range permit or a current general hunting or furtaker license to use the public shooting ranges. Find a shooting range near you.

Fish and Boat Commission is Accepting Boating Facility Grant Applications

The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) has two grant opportunities for qualifying organizations to capitalize on the surge in new boating activity.

The Boating Facility Grant Program provides grants for planning, acquisition, development, expansion and rehabilitation of public boating facilities on PA waterways. Townships, boroughs and municipal and county governments can learn more and apply online by Nov. 30.

The Recruitment, Retention and Reactivation (R3) Grant Program will reimburse up to $25,000 for eligible expenses that support R3-related educational programs and increase learning opportunities for anglers and boaters. Learn more and apply online by Dec. 6.

Recognizing the Selfless Sacrifice of Veterans

Originally known as Armistice Day, Veterans Day is a time to appreciate the brave men and women who selflessly dedicated their time to preserve our beloved American freedoms.

We also think of their families, who lived with the understanding that their loved ones could be in harm’s way and may not make it home.

These tremendous sacrifices are truly the ultimate demonstration of patriotism.
