Indiana Officials to Testify at Senate Hearing on RGGI

Three Indiana County officials will be key participants at a Senate Environmental Resources & Energy Committee hearing on the Governor’s proposal to have Pennsylvania join the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI), according to Senator Joe Pittman, who serves as Vice Chairman of the Committee.

The meeting is set for 1 p.m. in Pittsburgh with R. Michael Keith, Chairman of the Indiana County Board of Commissioners, Mark Hilliard, President of the Indiana County Chamber of Commerce, and Curtis A. Whitesel, Superintendent of the Homer-Center School District, scheduled to testify beginning at 2:05 p.m.

The hearing will be livestreamed at: https://www.pasenategop.com/, https://www.facebook.com/PASenateGOP and https://www.facebook.com/PASenateGOP.

If Pennsylvania joins RGGI, it would be the only major energy producing state in the compact and the resulting carbon tax on employers engaged in electric generation would devastate that industry and cost thousands of jobs.
