IRRC to Consider Governor’s Proposed Carbon Tax on Electricity

The Independent Regulatory Review Commission (IRRC) will meet at 10 a.m., Wednesday, September 1, in Harrisburg to consider the Governor’s mandate that Pennsylvania join the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI), according to Senator Joe Pittman. IRRC reviews regulations from nearly all state agencies, boards and commissions before they go into effect.

Senator Pittman and Representative Jim Struzzi will speak at the meeting, which will be livestreamed at: https://pacast.com/live/irrc.

The Senate Environmental Resources & Energy Committee approved a letter to IRRC on August 18 formally opposing a regulation to have Pennsylvania join RGGI.

On February 16, IRRC called for a one-year moratorium on the implementation of the regulation and questioned the Governor’s unilateral decision to join the compact without legislative approval.
