Pittman and Rossi Announce $587,000 Grant for Westmoreland County Pedestrian Safety Project

HARRISBURG – Sen. Joe Pittman (R-41) and Rep. Leslie Rossi (R-59) announced $587,000 in Multimodal Transportation Funding has been awarded for the Ligonier Valley High School Pedestrian Safety Project in Westmoreland County. The investment was approved by the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) on February 24, 2025 in Harrisburg.

Ligonier Township requested assistance from the Multimodal Transportation Fund for construction of sidewalks and a pedestrian bridge.

“Pedestrian safety is a crucial aspect of a healthy and vibrant local community,” Pittman said. “Just like in other areas of our state, our communities in rural areas must have a strong and reliable transportation infrastructure in place, and I’m pleased to have advocated for this substantial state support.”

“Enhancing transportation infrastructure is key to fostering safer and more accessible communities,” Rossi said. “This funding will not only improve safety for pedestrians but also support the long-term development of Ligonier Township, making it an even better place to live and visit.”

The Multimodal Transportation Fund provides grants to encourage economic development and ensure that a safe and reliable system of transportation is available to the residents of the commonwealth. Funds may be used for the development, rehabilitation and enhancement of transportation assets to existing communities, streetscape, lighting, sidewalk enhancement, pedestrian safety, connectivity of transportation assets and transit-oriented development.
