HARRISBURG – Sen. Joe Pittman (R-41) and Reps. Abby Major (R-60) and Josh Bashline (R-63) announced $1,750,000 in Multimodal Transportation Funding has been awarded for a substantial paving project to foster greater economic development and improve local transportation infrastructure in Armstrong County. The investment was approved by the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) on February 24, 2025 in Harrisburg.
Armstrong County submitted a request for assistance with the Multi-Municipal Paving Project, which will include road improvements throughout North Apollo Borough, Applewold Borough, Bradys Bend Township, Gilpin Township, Bethel Township, and Washington Township.
“The Armstrong County Multi-Municipal Paving Project is an extensive undertaking which aims to significantly improve the quality and safety of local roadways, benefiting both area residents and visitors alike,” Pittman said. “By addressing deteriorating pavement conditions, the project will enhance driving experiences, reduce vehicle wear and tear, and improve overall traffic flow. I’m pleased to have advocated for this substantial state support which will provide a significant benefit for the long-term stability of our local transportation infrastructure.”
“Roads in our area receive a lot of wear and tear, especially from the weather,” Major said. “I’m pleased this project will be completed as it will create a smoother ride that prevents damage to vehicles.”
“This significant investment to bolster vehicular safety and protection in our communities,” said Bashline. “I’m grateful to see the importance of this project recognized. Improving road conditions will ensure residents can travel anywhere they need to go with no hesitation.”
The Multimodal Transportation Fund provides grants to encourage economic development and ensure that a safe and reliable system of transportation is available to the residents of the commonwealth. Funds may be used for the development, rehabilitation and enhancement of transportation assets to existing communities, streetscape, lighting, sidewalk enhancement, pedestrian safety, connectivity of transportation assets and transit-oriented development.
