HARRISBURG – Sen. Joe Pittman (R-41) and Reps. Abby Major (R-60) and Josh Bashline (R-63) announced $200,000 was presented to the Allegheny River Development Corporation (ARDC) to help fund efforts to keep locks open on Armstrong County’s portion of the Allegheny River. The funding was approved by the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
“The Allegheny River is a great resource for Armstrong County, but if the locks on the river don’t remain open, it will have a hugely negative impact on recreational opportunities and local businesses,” said Pittman. “I’m happy to have been able to work with Reps. Major and Bashline to get the ARDC needed funding to ultimately benefit recreational boaters, tourism and the region’s economy.”
“The Allegheny River is a key to recreation for residents and visitors alike,” Major said. “I’m proud to support this funding, which will ensure that boaters can continue to enjoy the river. Like my predecessor Rep. Jeff Pyle, I remain committed to advocating for open and accessible river access for everyone.”
“The open locks on Armstrong County’s stretch of the Allegheny River are more than gateways for boats,” said Bashline. “They’re lifelines for local commerce, recreation and the heritage of a river that connects our communities. I’m pleased to see this funding allocated to continue this effort.”
