Pittman, Major, Rossi & Cooper Announce Over $1.8 Million in State Grants for Westmoreland County Projects

HARRISBURG – Sen. Joe Pittman (R-41) and Reps. Abby Major (R-60), Leslie Rossi (R-59) and Jill Cooper (R-55) announced $1,838,266 in state funding has been awarded for five projects in Westmoreland County. These investments from the Multimodal Transportation Fund Program and PA Small Water and Sewer Program were approved by the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) on January 20, 2026, in Harrisburg.

“Road network and water and sewer projects are an essential part of maintaining the stability of our communities, but often come with a high cost,” Pittman said. “I’m pleased to have worked with my colleagues to ensure this state support will be invested locally and can help to assist with necessary improvements. This is a great day, as these projects will improve services to numerous municipalities and residents within our region.”

“I’m pleased to partner with Sen. Pittman on these important infrastructure upgrades for our area,” Major said. “Some of the projects will improve roadways to allow for smoother travel, while others will address water treatment and stormwater issues. These are necessary improvements which would exponentially increase in cost if delayed as further deterioration would occur.”

“By securing these state grants, we are helping communities tackle critical infrastructure needs without placing the full burden on local taxpayers,” said Rossi. “This funding allows municipalities to make smart, proactive improvements that protect residents and support future development.”

“The costs of improving and expanding our infrastructure are always very high, and local governments work hard to invest in these projects as well as meet day-to-day expenditures,” Cooper said. “These are important investments, and I was thrilled to work with Sens. Kim Ward and Joe Pittman in seeing these projects get prioritized.”

The Multimodal Transportation Fund provides grants to encourage economic development and ensure that a safe and reliable system of transportation is available to the residents of the Commonwealth. Funds may be used for the development, rehabilitation, and enhancement of transportation assets to existing communities, streetscape, lighting, sidewalk enhancement, pedestrian safety, connectivity of transportation assets and transit-oriented development. The following projects are receiving support:

  • Vandergrift Borough is being awarded $757,000 for the Ninth Street Retaining Wall Project to replace the retaining wall.
  • Clair Township is being awarded $243,523 to pave Shrum Hill Road.
  • The Borough of Oklahoma is receiving $238,969 for the repaving of Middle Street Roadway and pedestrian improvements.

The PA Small Water and Sewer Program assists with the construction, improvement, expansion, or rehabilitation or repair of a water supply system, sanitary sewer system, storm sewer system, or flood control projects. The following projects are receiving support:

  • The City of Lower Burrell is being awarded $500,000 for the Big Braeburn Force Main Project.
  • Derry Township is receiving $98,774 for the Miller Run Streambank Repair Project.
